Real stars, who Turned down big Advertising deals for a Reason

Jan 10, 2019

What a joy it is always, to see our favourite actors on screen, apart from movies? We know many celebrities now promoting various products of many brands by starring in advertisements. But here is a list of few, who would not act in advertisements for the sake of ethical reasons.

Likewise, Abhishek Bachchan also refused to endorse an alcohol brand that was ready to offer him a deal of about 10 crores.

Kangana Ranaut

The ‘Queen’ actress did not take up a huge deal of a fairness cream ad, because she had a valid point that these ads hurt people’s sentiments. In the name of promoting beauty, these fairness cream ads only hurt people and bring a sense of inferiority complex to people who have darker complexion. These ads just do not promote the product but put down people in the naming of ‘adding beauty’ by making their darker skin fairer. We have to go forward to the future where fair or dark does not matter anymore. Today, body-shaming is shunned and any type of skin-tone, structure, etc. is being welcomed and encouraged.

Abhishek Bachchan

He is a perfect example of ‘like father like son’. We all know that Big B once rejected the Coca Cola advertisement when a young kid asked why he still promoted it though he knows it is a slow poison. He had been endorsing a cold drink brand ad for almost 8 years and the innocence of this child made him break the deal. Likewise, Abhishek Bachchan also refused to endorse an alcohol brand that was ready to offer him a deal of about 10 crores. The main reasons he gave for not taking up the role is he did not want to have a bad influence on the youth and did not want to promote something he did not want to use.

Kareena Kapoor

Kapoor rejected acting for a chicken brand, obviously because she was voted by PETA as a sexiest vegetarian in the year 2008.

After winning the All England Badminton Championship in 2002, Pullela Gopichand was offered a very big deal by a major soft-drink company.

Sunny Leone

Delhi government appealed to few of the actors to not encourage certain pan masala and tobacco products. Following this, the actress, in the year 2016, promised that she would not advertise the products related to any form of tobacco in the future. Forget about anyone who has enough money, what these companies provide for any celebrity, who is very popular among people, to promote such products, is tempting even to celebrities. But, this actress decided to forego all that and decided to reject this offer. Many people have died of cancer due to smoking and consumption of pan and tobacco, so this is how we prevent people from using these kinds of products.

Pullela Gopichand & PV Sindhu

Forget the actors and actresses, sports stars have also achieved so much fame because of their talent and profession. After winning the All England Badminton Championship in 2002, Pullela Gopichand was offered a very big deal by a major soft-drink company. But as we all know it is very hazardous to not just children, but also for adults. Considering this, the badminton player decided to turn down the deal. PV Sindhu, who was coached under Pullela also followed the same when she was offered one such big deal.

Apart from these, actor Aamir Khan turned down a luxury car ad which offered an exorbitant amount just because he wanted to concentrate on socially relevant ads. John Abraham also was one of the many actors who turned down tobacco and alcohol product branding. We are really proud that the actors are so socially responsible and turned down such offers only to see a happy future. The world needs more such people.
