Bengal Tiger tame the Kangaroos, finally.Jan 08, 2019
The Indian cricket team broke a 71-year-long wait and bagged a stupendous test match series victory against Australia right in the Aussie soil. The team, lead by Virat Kohli has carved a golden chapter in the history of Indian Cricket by hitting a score of 2-1 in 4 four matches.
India won the first test match in Adelaide by beating Australia with 31 runs and followed the same in the third match in Melbourne with a higher score of 137 more than its opponent. But the second match did not go in its favour. Australia won the second test by hitting 147 runs more than India. The much awaited fourth match of the test series in Sydney was declared draw, confirming India's maiden triumph over its opponent in test series victory.
Updates on Fourth day of test match series
Scheduled at Sydney cricket ground, the match on day 4 was delayed for more than 4 hours attributing to bad weather. The play began with the home team resuming on 236 runs after lunch break, in response to India's score of 622 runs and seven declared. While the Australian team needed a definite win to level out the four-match series, the match was called off for the day due to insufficient lighting. It was only 25.2 overs done and the cricket fans awaited the players to be on the pitch with their phone torches switched on. When there wasn't any sign of lights getting better in Sydney, the Cricket board at Australia dropped a tweet declaring a draw and confirming India's first victory in test series. The tweet read
"ALL OVER! It's a draw in Sydney and India claim a famous 2-1 series triumph"
With Virat Kohli's team performing at their best, a day long match could have easily fetched India a terrific win in the fourth match. But things turned out to be a kind of anti-climax when the match was called off, eliminating the chances for India to add an insult to the injury with a victory margin of 3-1.
