Will god ever Answer our Prayer for a Secular Country!Dec 26, 2018
The police officials of Noida have given notice to companies in Sector 58 of Noida. It was reported by some people from the public that a general park in Sector 58 was being used frequently by a group of employees from nearby companies for offering namaz prayers. Subsequent to the report, Noida police took action and issued a notice to the companies to see to that their employees do not use such community parks for namaz prayers.
The group of people who reported the activity have said that this group namaz at the community park is a disruption to the harmony in the area. The notice issued by the police to the companies has received mixed reviews from public and politicians alike. It has also been noted by many people that holding a company responsible for the activities for their employees outside the office does not seem right.
Namaz forms an important of prayers for Muslims and is a tradition that goes way back. Therefore, there is another side of the public that has voiced out opinions that the people who want to do namaz should be given the right environment to do so without any hassle.
Endorsing this view, Samajwadi Party spokesperson Sunil Yadav said that a break should be given by the company to employees to perform namaz at a nearby mosque.
The senior superintendent of police Ajay Pal Sharma spoke about this issue and said that the notice issued is not specific to any religion. On the other hand, the companies that received the notice have requested for clarification regarding the matter. It is to be noted that permission has to be taken before offering prayers at any public place. However, holding the companies responsible is confusing and hence the request for clarification.
Opposition leaders have criticised the state government for creating an environment that is not secular. Congress leader Kapil Sibal said that the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, has been creating unrest in the state ever since he came to power. Other Congress leaders have also slammed the matter and said that if there is indeed a problem then the employees should be given alternatives instead of just asking them to stop.
The issue has taken a political as well as religious tint with many people and leaders arguing on both sides. It is, in fact, sad to see people getting divided instead of getting united and embracing secularity.
The very nature of the issue is still unclear and the motive behind the issue is also still hazy with many different pictures being portrayed in the media. What is important is to understand what the actual problem is and stop the circulation of various tinted versions of the story.
BJP spokesperson Dr Chandramohan has rightly said that the issue should not be politicised. He added that what has transpired is merely a reaction from the local administration to complaints from the public.
No matter what, the people of the country should be aware that various groups with vested interests may be trying to use such issues for their own gains and that we should not be misled by these false stories but understand what the real issues are.
