Enjoying Summer vacations – The good old Way!May 20, 2019
Summer vacations are a time of joy for children. They are finally released from the monotonous schedules of school and they have their freedom intact for two full months. A lot of parents think about how to engage children in activities in summer vacations to make sure that they don’t feel bored. Today, there are so many summer camps and courses that focus on getting children to be one step ahead of others. But, there was a time a few decades ago when things were not this competitive. Perhaps it will be a refreshing change to try and spend summer vacations in a more relaxed way inspired by the previous generation.
Here are some good old summer vacation plans that will really let kids enjoy vacations to the fullest!
Listening to stories from Grandma
Haven’t we all wondered what kind of secret storytelling school all grandmas attended to be able to tell such gripping stories to us all the time? They can make even the simplest stories sound so interesting. Not only that, their lives and childhood were all in a different era and their stories might be the only way that we get to know how the world was back then. What can be a more entertaining and educative way for kids to spend summer holidays rather than by listening to grandma’s stories?
Enjoying fresh seasonal fruits
Summer is synonymous with juicy, tasty fruits such as mangoes, watermelon, muskmelon, etc. With nothing else to do but chill all day, children can spend their time getting healthier by savouring the seasonal fruits. In fact, summer fruits are what children like the most, so you don’t even have to nudge them into eating these treats. For a more creatively stimulating experience, make children participate in the kitchen as you make colourful fruit salads!
Wandering aimlessly on a whim
Yes! Children need not always be part of structured activities. The freedom to go around on whim will give children a lot of space and spark up their imagination when they get bored, which they eventually will.
It will also give the kids a chance to explore their surroundings which they usually miss amidst the schedules of school and other activities. Give them a real break and let them take a relaxed look at the world around them and let them think in silence. It will definitely leave them a lot more enriched.
Playing with crafts to heart’s content
Crafts are always a child’s best friend. There is something magical about creating something out of the simplest materials. Living in India, children can make the most out of our rich traditional crafts and spend their time in these interesting activities. There are a wide variety of crafts and levels to choose from according to each child’s preference as well. So, whether it is learning traditional painting or weaving palm leaves, let them try their hand out at these crafts and discover their creative and imaginative side in the summer holiday!
Water to the rescue
Summer and water make the best pair. Most regions in India face sweltering heat in the summers and children are one of the most affected demographics of the population. Playing in the water will be so much of fun for children. Whether it is pools, lakes or backyard inflatable tubs, let your children play in the water and watch them have the time of their life. Just ensure that they are safe by monitoring properly and equipping them with enough protection. This can be made even more enjoyable if kids play with other kids. The more kids there are, the better it will be for all of them!
