Talking about the internet marketplace, one of the portals that comes to mind is Shopclues.com. Founded by a ten-member team in July 2011 comprising of Sanjay Sethi, Sandeep Aggarwal and Radhika Aggarwal in Silicon Valley, the company based in Gurgaon claims to have 6 lakh merchants and 2.8 crore products on its platform.
Radhika is the Co-founder and CMO of ShopClues, a marketplace that connects buyers and sellers online. She has studied MBA from Washington University in St.Louis and has a postgraduate degree in Advertising and Public Relations. Prior to that, she worked with Nordstrom, Seattle and Goldman Sachs, USA.
Radhika is currently the chief business officer at ShopClues while Sandeep Aggarwal ( Radhikas husband) had left the company in 2013 after he was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the US on charges of insider trading at his previous employer, Collins Stewart. He then started Droom, an automobile marketplace.
The company had deferred its plan for public listing of its shares to 2018, blaming the governments scrapping of high value banknotes. It raised money at a valuation of $1.1 billion a year ago and had said it would file for an initial public offering (IPO) of its shares on Nasdaq by September 2017. It is now targeting the first quarter of 2018 as a realistic timeline for the IPO and will seek to raise funds in the meanwhile.
The Indian woman behind the success of shopclues as an online portal is none other than Ms Radhika Aggarwal. The love for blogging on fashion and related topics inspired her to start her own venture. Radhika comes with a package of over 14 years of marketing experience in varied segments of the industry like retail, e-commerce, fashion and lifestyle, advertising and public relations with world’s leading brands.
As a cofounder she has made the name of shopclues a common household name in a span of less than two years. She is a very strong orator and great proponent of women entrepreneurship. Radhika, as a person, is very passionate about empowering women with leadership roles.
According to Radhika, few important technological advancements like use of mobile phones at large, boom in internet and increase in buying power will pave way for rapid growth in the online market portals. She believes that tier 1 and tier 2 cities of India have great potential as the middle class is always value conscious. To top all this, she believes that nothing can beat a self-driven person. Self-motivation, self belief are few qualities she complies to, which helped her transform shopclues into a successful platform.
